How Presort Works

Presorting isn’t just sorting by ZIP Code™ — it’s a rules-driven process designed by USPS® to streamline handling and reward automation with postage savings.
Here’s what happens during EZ24x7 presort processing:

1. Mail Class Selection
   The system determines the optimal class — First-Class™, Standard Mail®, Periodical, or Nonprofit — based on the mailing purpose and volume.
   
   

2. Address Grouping and Sequencing
   Addresses are organized into groups by ZIP+4®, carrier route, and delivery sequence according to USPS presort rules. Enhanced Carrier Route (ECR) mailings can also be generated if eLOT® data is available.
   
   

3. Containerization
   The presorted mail is divided into trays or sacks with proper labeling and USPS-approved barcode identifiers.
   
   

4. Documentation and Postage Calculation
   EZ24x7 generates all required USPS documentation, including:

   • PS Form 3553 (CASS™ Summary Report)

   • Qualification Reports describing tray/sack preparation

   • PS Form 3600-R, 3602-R, and 3602-N postage statements
